Hiring Armstrong is the first step in providing unified support to producers across North America, says Alex Bell, Nofence Managing Director, US. "Kalon is the ideal leader to bring Nofence's precision livestock management technology to Canadian producers, who are eager to start using the Nofence system," says Bell. "His experience in bringing new agricultural technology to market and his deep understanding of Canadian livestock production will be an asset to Canadian livestock operations." Armstrong brings more than a decade of professional experience in agriculture, technology and energy. Most recently, he was a founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Enriched Ag, whose AI-powered agricultural intelligence platform has collected and processed more than three million images across North America. He joined Enriched Ag in 2021 to lead its Canadian subsidiary, establishing test sites and deployment strategies in Alberta which guided hardware and computer vision offerings from concept to revenue. He later served as chief revenue officer (CRO). Over his career, Armstrong has helped secure more than $15 million ($CAD) in venture capital and non-dilutive funding. He began as a professional engineer at TransCanada Pipelines, now TC Energy, then co-founded Catalyst Venture Consulting, which advised early-stage ventures. He has advised startups across North America. "Decisions and incentives around grazing infrastructure and cross-fencing are complex for Canadian producers, who make grazing decisions across privately owned land, Crown land, and on pasture provided through custom grazing arrangements, depending on the region and operation," says Armstrong. "From my years working alongside producers, I've seen how precision livestock management tools can help optimize land use at scale within these constraints, and I look forward to bring this business- and life-changing technology to Canadian producers." Armstrong holds degrees in chemical engineering and molecular genetics from the University of Alberta, both earned with distinction, and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Alberta. The Nofence platform includes GPS-enabled collars to keep cattle, sheep and goats within boundaries that producers draw and move from a smartphone app. Users stay connected to livestock location and activity via cellular connection and HerdNet, Nofence's proprietary collar-to-collar communication system. Nofence's new N3 cattle collar, which launched in September, also is enabled with satellite connectivity as a backup. In addition to containment, the system alerts producers to changes in animal behavior so they can proactively check on livestock and allows users to view herd movement and grazing patterns. Nofence is the only virtual fencing system that helps producers manage multiple species in the same app. Tweet |
