Source: ContinuumAg news release MASON CITY, IA -- Continuum Ag, a leader in Carbon Intensity (CI) measurement, reporting, and verification, and Golden Grain Energy, an ethanol producer based in Mason City, Iowa, are collaborating to help farmers access a premium for low-carbon bushels tied to the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit. 45Z is a federal tax incentive that rewards the production of lower-carbon fuels, including ethanol, based on the fuel's carbon intensity. Farmers who qualify under Golden Grain Energy's program objectives will receive added value for their verified low-carbon grain. With the USDA issuing its final guidance on integrating feedstock carbon intensity data to increase 45Z claims, Golden Grain Energy is encouraging farmers to certify their crops. "Golden Grain Energy believes the future of ethanol will be driven not only by operational excellence at the plant, but also by the sustainability practices implemented on the farm. Through the 45Z program, regenerative agriculture practices can play a meaningful role in reducing carbon intensity and unlocking new market opportunities. We are excited to work alongside our growers to demonstrate the value these practices bring to both agriculture and renewable fuels," said Chad Kuhlers, Golden Grain Energy CEO. Continuum Ag's TopSoil platform helps farmers easily calculate their CI Score, organize farm records, and prepare for emerging low-carbon grain opportunities through its CI Certification process. "The IRS has made its intent clear that verified low-carbon bushels have a role to play in 45Z," said Mitchell Hora, Continuum Ag's CEO & 7th-Generation Farmer. "We're excited to work with forward-thinking ethanol producers like Golden Grain Energy that recognize the potential value of integrating farmers into their decarbonization strategy." Farmers interested in participating through Golden Grain Energy should complete the interest form now. The program begins with the 2027 crop year, which is already underway, because fall fertilizer applications and cover crops planted after the 2026 harvest factor into the 2027 crop: Interest Form for 45Z Participation Farmers who want to participate in 45Z but are unable to sell to Golden Grain Energy can calculate their CI Score for free and learn more about CI Certification by visiting TopSoil.ag or contacting a Sales Agronomist at 885.805.5700.
