NATIONAL PORK BOARD NAMES NEW VP MKTG
Source: National Pork Board news release

Joy Johnson has joined the National Pork Board as
vice president of marketing. She brings more than 17
years of marketing experience, serving most recently
as vice president of market strategy for Osborn and
Barr Communications, one of agriculture's largest
marketing agencies, and also was head of their Des
Moines office.

Johnson's responsibilities will be focused on domestic
marketing. She will manage the National Pork Board
demand enhancement staff, which promotes pork to
a wide variety of audiences through market and
consumer trend research, the Don't be blah
campaign, the work of the Pork Information Bureau
and activities in the retail, foodservice, niche and
culinary markets.

"The Pork Checkoff has been successful in helping
promote pork and pork products, building demand for
pork, providing education programs for pork
producers and coordinating and sharing Checkoff-
funded research," Johnson said. "I look forward to
working with staff, producers and shareholders to
build a strategy that will serve this industry for years
to come."

The vice president of marketing reports directly to
the National Pork Board Chief Executive Officer Steve
Murphy. Murphy said: "Throughout her career, Joy
has worked extensively with pork producers and
farmers. She also has helped shape marketing
programs and product launches for some of America's
most successful companies including the Principal
Financial Group, Microsoft and Sprint.

"With new leadership comes an opportunity to look at
new ways to help change the pork purchasing habits
of U.S. consumers. Joy Johnson will be committed to
the pork industry and driven to carefully craft a
strategy-oriented approach to the marketing
challenges the pork industry faces," said
Murphy. "Her professional experiences, skills and
leadership capabilities will play a central role in that
objective."
