Sep. 26, 2006 Crop Life America reports: Beyond increased concerns associated with E.coli and paying higher production costs than conventional farms, U.S. organic growers are facing another growing challenge: the outsourcing of America's organic crop demand to foreign countries, including Mexico and China, where cheap farm labor gives overseas agribusinesses an edge. With farm labor costs of $1 to $2 per hour in Mexico, it is no surprise that organic crops are being shipped across the border. More than 85 percent of Mexico's organic crops are exported, with much of their yield arriving in the United States, according to a study last year by the nonprofit CropLife Foundation.
