Dec. 7, 2007 Source: AgriMarketing magazine One of the victims of the senseless killings at the mall in Omaha was veteran agri-marketer Gary Scharf. He was working as the National Sales Manager for LG Lucky Goldstar (LG), a Korean-based manufacturer of off patent crop protection products that is entering the U.S. ag market. Before joining LG, Scharf had worked for Novartis (Syngenta) in various sales positions and was National Sales Mgr for Makhteshim (MANA). Following is his obituary from the Omaha World Herald: Gary, age 48 years, of Lincoln, NE. Devoted father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Charismatic and adventurous, he lived his life with humor, love and compassion. Survived by beloved son, Steve of Lincoln; parents John and Doris of Curtis; sister Deb of Omaha; brother John (Barbara) of Curtis, Bob (Gayle) of Gretna; nieces Kristin, Stephanie, Nichole and Kacie; nephews Kevin and Will and loyal dog, Red, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by son Scott; grandparents Walter and Goldine Kendle and Adam and Beatrice Scharf. After graduating from Medicine Valley High School, he attended the University of Nebraska where he received his degree in Agricultural Economics. Gary stayed very close to his farm roots, he had a passion for agriculture and was an avid animal lover. He worked his entire career in agri-business and regularly went back to help on the farm. Though his job was very demanding and required a great deal of travel, he could always be counted on to find time to work supporting the family farm in his schedule. Gary was also very active in working with youth. He has served as a trustee on the Nebraska FFA foundation and was actively involved in the selection of the Nebraska State FFA Officers. Gary had a successful career as a sales manager in the ag chemical industry.
