Jan. 27, 2010 CattleNetwork.com reports: Recordnet.com reports Kiefer Sutherland, better known as Jack Bauer on the Fox TV show "24", is victim to a cattle salesman who is now on trial for embezzlement and forgery. While starring in several cowboy movies, the actor developed an interest in cattle ranching. He currently owns a ranch in Montana and participates in rodeo contests. Sutherland was approached by Michael Wayne Carr, a cattle manager and competitive steer roping promoter, who told him about an opportunity to buy cattle in Mexico and sell them for a huge profit to preselected buyers in the US. Sutherland gave Carr $869,000 to purchase the cattle, but there is no evidence to show they were ever purchased. The arraignment for Carr is scheduled for February 8, if he's found guilty on all 12 felony charges he could serve up to 18 years in state prison. Charges include five counts of grand theft with "great taking enhancements," three counts of forgery, two counts of obtaining money by false pretenses and one count each of embezzlement and falsifying corporate books. Carr is accused of using the same scam on a couple in New Mexico for $177,000 and selling cattle he leased from a man in Colorado. Tweet |
