FARM BROADCASTERS ANNOUNCE AWARD WINNERS AT ITS ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Source: National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) news release

Recognizing his dedication and commitment to the agriculture industry and his professionalism in farm broadcasting, the National Association of Farm Broadcasting has named Jeff Nalley, farm director at Cromwell Ag Radio Network, Nashville, the 2010 Farm Broadcaster of the Year.

The honor took place during the NAFB's Annual Convention held Nov. 10-12 at the Westin Crown Center, Kansas City, Mo.

"Building a relationship with listeners and serving their needs is my daily reward. Receiving awards from farm groups is evidence of doing your job, but to be honored by my fellow farm broadcasters in the NAFB is a very humbling honor. It validates a career. . . . I am grateful and blessed," Nalley said upon receiving the award, the honoree for which is selected by the Association's Awards Committee.

Nalley has been an NAFB broadcaster for more than 25 years and helped to start the network, where he serves as the sole employee, offering 36 programs daily. For his excellence in broadcasting, he has been awarded with many recognitions and achievements including from the Illinois corn growers and soybean growers, and numerous awards from NAFB for market reporting and for newscasts. He served as NAFB president in 2004.

The Farm Broadcaster of the Year and Horizon Award programs are sponsored by Syngenta Corporation.

Additional recognitions during the 66th Annual Convention included:

* Two long-time members inducted into the NAFB Hall of Fame: Taylor Brown of Northern Ag Network in Billings, Montana; and Gene Millard, NAFB Emeritus member, and long-time broadcaster at KFEQ Radio in St. Joseph, Mo.

* Mark Oppold, News Director for RFD-TV, received the New Holland Oscar in Agriculture. The award represents excellence in reporting and quality broadcasting.

* Roger Olson, of the National 4-H Council and Denny Waddle, KRVN/Rural Radio Network received the Dix Harper Meritorious Service Award for their long-time contributions and support of NAFB.

* Haylie Shipp, Farm Broadcaster at Northern Ag Network in Billings, received the Horizon Award. The award recognizes broadcasters with less than five years of membership who show promise in the industry.
