Jan. 24, 2011 American Agricultural Editors' Association (AAEA) reports: By Karen Simon, 2011 AMS Chair "Jazz It Up" this summer at the 13th annual Ag Media Summit! This year's Ag Media Summit (AMS) will be held July 23-27, 2011, in New Orleans. From the headwaters of the Mississippi in Minnesota last year, to the Gulf this year, those attending AMS will notice quite a change in culture and atmosphere from St. Paul to New Orleans, but what won't change is the commitment to learning and the opportunities to network that have been a hallmark of AMS since its inception. The event will begin with a pre-conference tour on July 23 that will include unprecedented access to area ports and loading facilities that constitute the leading export region for U.S. agriculture. We'll be able to explore the challenges and opportunities facing exporters first-hand and learn how that impacts farmers across the country. On Sunday, the meeting swings into full gear with educational sessions in the afternoon and a welcome party to officially kick off the event. The program committee has been hard at work developing programming for the general areas the program covers: writing, photography, design, publishing and sales, public relations, as well as sessions targeted toward students. You won't want to miss Tuesday's keynote speaker Ted Jackson, a staff photographer for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, who paddled into the Lower Ninth Ward just after the levee broke and spent several harrowing days covering the devastation that followed. Other program highlights include sessions on managing digital workflow, building customer relationships and effective teams in challenging times, and measuring results in digital media. If you're looking for a story while attending AMS, be sure to attend the newsmaker panels on ag transportation issues and hypoxia. In addition, InfoExpo will feature more than 75 industry exhibitors; there will be several award presentations and the ABM Agri-Council will host the annual golf tournament. Stay tuned for up-to-date information at www.agmediasummit.com and www.ageditors.com. Registrations will officially open on the AMS website in early May. Information for sponsors and exhibitors will be online and mailed by early February. Tweet |
