Jun. 6, 2011 Kansas City AgriBusiness Club reports: The Center for Animal Health Innovation is open for business at Kansas State University's Olathe campus. Launched with a $1 million grant from the Kansas Bioscience Authority, the Center will try to match animal health companies looking for new technology to develop into products with KSU researchers or entrepreneurs who are researching such science and technology. The Olathe operation is the fifth and final initiative financed under the KBA's Centers of Innovation program. "We're still formulating our strategic plan and understanding the core categories that we want to go after," notes the Center's interim CEO, Paula Stack. Once that happens, it will begin to focus on opportunities. She expects the Center's board, composed of individuals from regional animal health organizations and companies, to select a permanent CEO this summer, and to set goals and hone its plans to attract additional investment. "We're really at the beginning of the process," she said, adding that the Center's objective is to bring economic growth to the animal health industry and the state of Kansas. MRI Global, formerly the Midwest Research Institute, originally approached the KBA with the idea. Supporters see the Center as an important advancement for the area's Animal Health Corridor. Tweet |
