23 KILLED, 6,700 INJURED FROM FARM WORK IN INDIANA LAST YEAR Sep. 23, 2011
BrownfieldAgNews reports:
For the fourth consecutive year, farm-related deaths totaled at least twenty according to a Purdue University study released yesterday (Tuesday).
Bill Field, Purdue University Extension farm safety specialist said the Indiana Farm Fatality Summary found that the leading causes of farm deaths were related to farm machinery.
The 23 farm deaths in 2010 were three more than reported in 2009. Field said in addition to the 23 fatalities, more than 6,700 non-fatal farm injuries were reported.
The annual study was released at the Indiana Farm Bureau Building in Indianapolis to coincide with National Farm Safety and Health Week.
