Jan. 3, 2012 Source: DTN/The Progressive Farmer Moving into the new year, farmers are slightly more positive about the health of their operations than they were going into the harvest, according to the latest DTN/The Progressive Farmer Agriculture Confidence Index (ACI). The ACI now stands at 110, a slight increase in sentiment from the last time farmers were surveyed in September, which came in at 108. The increase can be attributed to the Present Situation Index, which reflects current producer sentiment regarding input prices and net income. The Present Situation Index now stands at 134, an increased from the weak 128 in September. The Expectations Index, which measures sentiment on activity 12 months from now, remains at 94. The increase in the President Situation Index from September to December is a pattern that is emerging from the confidence index, which could reflect the natural tendency of producers to not call it a good year until it's in the books.
