Jan. 3, 2012 Iowa Farmer Today (IFT) reports: Anita Hess enjoyed farming and reading about farming, so when she died in October at 89, it didn't surprise her relatives' that one of the memorials was to IFT. "She enjoyed the publication," says Hess' son Albert. It was, however, a first for the publication. "We were very surprised to receive the memorial fund money ($1,000) and will donate it to the Iowa FFA Foundation in Anita Hess' name," says IFT Publisher Steve DeWitt. The money, he says, should go toward helping young people in agriculture. And that's all right by the younger Hess. Anita Hess spent 51 years farming in the Bettendorf area with her husband, Frederick. Even after retirement and her husband's death, she remained involved in the farm operations, according to her son. "I farmed the ground, but she marketed our grain," Hess says. "She did better at that than a lot of people. She was a big part of the farming operation." The memorials at her funeral were to IFT and also to the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Tweet |
