Source: National 4-H Council news release

National 4-H Council has named Dr. P. Bai Akridge as its new Director of Global Projects. As a member of National 4-H Council's global team, Dr. Akridge will build and execute National 4-H Council's global strategy through the Global Clover Network, support the network of global 4-H programs, and drive new global partnership opportunities.

"4-H is committed to the development of agriculture in this country and creating successful rural economies around the world," said Donald T. Floyd, Jr., president and CEO of National 4-H Council. "Youth development is the world's best long-term solution to ensure food security and global economic stability, and we are thrilled to welcome Bai whose vast experience in both international development and education will undoubtedly propel our efforts in developing future farmers and addressing worldwide food challenges for our growing population."

As the world's population continues to grow - projected to surpass nine billion people by 2040 -food security has become a critical issue. Despite these obstacles, the youth of the world have the potential to change the course of history and build a sustainable future. Through its programs and its scope, 4-H is uniquely positioned to prepare the world's young people to meet urgent global needs. By linking 4-H programs worldwide, youth are engaged in a global movement to improve their own lives and the economy of their communities and their countries.

Dr. Akridge brings nearly 30 years of experience in international development and international education to National 4-H Council. Most recently, Dr. Akridge was the President of WorldWise Services, Inc., an international education and workforce development consultancy firm focusing on program development and strategic planning in international education, development and policy. He also served as Interim Executive Director of Higher Education for Development, a USAID-funded program that funds and manages innovative, university-based partnerships that target development challenges worldwide.

Prior to WorldWise Services, Dr. Akridge directed education programs at IBM Corporation and IBM World Trade Asia, serving as a marketing planner for the U.S. higher education market, and manager of corporate philanthropy in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dr. Akridge earned a PhD in Political Science and a MA in Public Policy Administration from Wisconsin's land-grant university, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Certificate in Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. His BA is from DePauw University in Indiana and spent an academic year studying abroad at the University of Nairobi in Kenya, East Africa.
