NOMINATIONS FOR 2015 BORLAUG CAST COMMUNICATIONS AWARD NOW OPEN
Source: Council for Agricultural Science and Technology news release

Nominations are being accepted for the 2015 Borlaug CAST Communication Award, an honor that recognizes professionals actively working in the agricultural, environmental, or food sectors who are promoting agricultural science in the public policy arena. This award has become an influential component in the efforts to keep agricultural issues and programs in the public eye and in front of national and world policymakers.

Organized by the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology, and sponsored by DuPont, the award carries on the legacy of Dr. Norman Borlaug. Stakeholders in the CAST organization have special insights into the world of agriculture, and with this open nomination process, you have a chance to get actively involved.

The 2014 prize winner, Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam, believes it is important to step out of the lab and classroom often enough to let the public and policymakers know the facts. "Hunger is the enemy," says Van Eenennaam, "and starvation is a story that needs to be told." She believes that tech and science play major roles in the struggle to feed billions, and she also worries that scientists are being outmaneuvered by bad science and skewed sources.

Van Eenennaam joins a list of notable recent winners including Jeff Simmons, President of Elanco; Dr. Carl Winter of the University of California-Davis; Professor Catherine Bertini, former head of the World Food Programme; and Dr. Akin Adesina, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development for Nigeria. Previous winners were honored with a Charles A. Black Award.

The award winner will receive a bronze sculpture, an honorarium, and the opportunity to give a presentation at a CAST award ceremony during the 2015 World Food Prize Symposium.
