AGWEB REPORTS THE TOP THREE QUESTIONS ILLINOIS SOYBEAN PRODUCERS ARE ASKING
by Ben Potter, AgWeb.com

Each year, the Illinois Soybean Association attends farm shows across all across the Land of Lincoln. It's an opportunity to have conversations about a wide range of topics. In particular, ISA says the following three questions tend to stand out.

1. "I was looking for more information on growing non-GMO or identity-preserved beans. Where do I find that?"

Farmers can find this information at soypremiums.org. This website is funded by the soybean checkoff. It connects farmers with premium programs. They have access to detailed program listings as well as links to additional resources.

2. "In the past, you published Varietal Information Program for Soybeans (VIPS), but I haven't seen them in a while. Do you still do that?"

ISA does not publish VIPS, but the United Soybean Board offers an alternative tool called the Soybean Quality Toolbox. This resource gives farmers a step-by-step process to find high-quality soybean varieties for their farm.

3. "I heard there was a farmer in Illinois who grew more than 100 bushels this year - how did he do it?"

Dan Arkels, who farms in LaSalle County, won ISA's yield contest with 103.95 bu. per acre. Click here for a detailed account of how he broke the 100-bu. barrier.

Arkels says effort plus experimentation can pay off.

"Be willing to put on a product," he says. "Be willing to experiment a little and try new things."
