Mayer Funeral Home of Austin, Minnesota will be handling the arrangements. Jack grew up on a family farm near Rose Creek, Minnesota. After serving in the U.S. Navy he planned to enter law school, and was admitted, but fell in love and got married instead. He joined his father's farm implement business in Rose Creek. Jack eventually took over Thill Implement, selling Minneapolis-Moline and Oliver Farm Equipment. He opened a second business, Thill Construction, to build Butler and Behlen grain bins. Facing a high interest rate, Thill closed his implement business in 1980. Next, he took a trip to Peoria, Illinois to set up a farm show. The rest is Tradexpos history. Jack's agribusiness career spanned more than 65 years. "I have enjoyed every minute of it," Thill said, when the Austin Chamber of Commerce honored him in 2009 with a Lifetime Achievement Award. "I still got a ways to go." His advice to young business people comes from the heart: "Be friendly. You are not going to like everyone you do business with. Enjoy people. Treat them like kings and remember a day without laughter is a lost day." His community work includes serving three terms as Mayor of Rose Creek, Minnesota where he added two subdivisions expanding the size of the town. Jack has been a member of the Austin Area Chamber and the Rotary in Austin since March of 1964. His many philanthropic works include, but are not limited to, the Mower County Historical Society, his church and the Hormel Foundation, The American Red Cross and The Salvation Army. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Elizabeth Ann "Bette" Thill. Survivors include three sons, John and Janet Thill of Leawood, KS , Jeffrey and Debbie Thill of Spring Park, MN, Kevin and Linda Thill of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, K. Patrick Thill, Ryan Thill, Lindsay Thill, Anna Thill; and three grandchildren by marriage, Gina Manthey, Jenna (Jessie) Kulberg, Anders Berglund ; and two greatgrandchildren, Karly Kulberg and Connor Kulberg.
