AGRILIANCE TIMELINE May 2006 A company as complex and diverse as Agriliance doesn't spring up overnight. Careful nurturing by committed owners and thoughtful pruning are both part of a strong, sustainable business. Meshing "agriculture" and "alliance," Agriliance applies its strengths in both areas to serve growers and dealers in 36 states, plus Canada and Mexico. While it was officially formed in 2000, seeds for Agriliance were planted in 1987 when Cenex/Land O'Lakes Ag Services was established as a joint venture between the two regional cooperatives. *June 1998: Cenex merges with Harvest States and the agronomy joint venture with Land O'Lakes is renamed Cenex/Land O'Lakes Agronomy Company. *October 1998: Land O'Lakes adds Countrymark assets to the Cenex/Land O'Lakes Agronomy Company. June 1999: Cenex/Land O'Lakes Agronomy Company purchases Terra Distribution, adding retail locations, employees and related assets and significantly increasing its trade area. February 2000: Agriliance LLC is formed as an independent joint venture company with 50 percent ownership by Land O'Lakes and combined 50 percent ownership by CHS and Farmland Crop Protection. The new relationship brings WILFARM (a joint venture between Farmland and Wilbur Ellis), plus Omnium, LLC, crop protection product manufacturing facilities into cooperative system ownership. July 2003: Agriliance establishes the first of many joint ventures with Alabama Farmers Cooperative (AFC), linking Agriliance resources and distribution expertise with AFC retail and service capabilities. April 2004: CHS purchases the Farmland portion of Agriliance, bringing ownership back to CHS and Land O'Lakes, each owning 50 percent of the company. Today: Agriliance serves nearly 2,200 dealers. It employs 2,200 people and operates in both wholesale and retail markets, with 149 company-owned retail locations. AM Tweet |
