WELCOME TO THE SUMMIT!
The 2006 Ag Media Summit is upon us and is looking to be one of the best Summits ever. Portland, and the Northwest, is a spectacular area to hold an event and in order to see some of the local terrain we have added pre-Summit tours.

On Saturday and Sunday before the Summit begins there will be five fun and educational tours. Saturday offers three options: A winery tour, a white water rafting excursion and a chance to hike and take a nature walk in the Columbia Gorge area known for its beautiful waterfalls.

For Sunday there are two options: the Hood River tour will travel through the spectacular Columbia Gorge to Hood River, Oregon's prime tree fruit country. The Livestock tour option will take us through the Willamette Valley to visit a variety of livestock operations including a beef outfit near the end of the Oregon Trail and a stop at a Jersey/Holstein dairy that is home to Willamette Valley Cheese, an artisan cheesemaking operation.

The highlight of AMS is, of course, the program. From Agri-blogging and Farm Podcasting to a Pulitzer Prize winning author educating our attendees about story writing to a National Geographic photographer's workshop, this year's program promises to cover a variety of interests very well.

The InfoExpo will have more than 60 booths and is a great place for editors to gather stories about what is going on in the industry and for everyone to learn about new products and services from these companies. Thank you Sponsors! AMS absolutely could not happen without the generous support of our faithful sponsors.

Log on to our Web site www.agmediasummit.com for more information.

Again, welcome to Portland!

Andy Atzenweiler
2006 AMS Steering Committee Chairman
