![]() September 2007 The BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen Board of Dirs appoints Dr. Stefan Marcinowski as head of Agricultural Products & Nutrition, South America, Specialty Chemicals Research and BASF Plant Science GmbH. He succeeds Peter Oakley upon his retirement. The board reassigned responsibities following the transformation of the German BASF Aktiengesellschaft into a European Company, Societas Europaea (BASF SE). All board changes will be effective in April 2008. Ingersoll-Rand Company Limited announces it has agreed to sell its Bobcat, Utility Equipment and Attachments business units to Doosan Infracore for approximately $4.9 billion. Bobcat announces it has signed a strategic agreement with Korean manufacturer, Daedong Industrial Co. Ltd., to produce a line of Bobcat-branded compact utility tractors. Monsanto announces its next-generation soybean technology, Roundup RReady2Yield soybeans, has completed the regulatory process in both the U.S. and Canada. The Roundup RReady2Yield soybean technology represents a next-generation upgrade of the company's Roundup Ready soybean technology. The company says three years of field comparisons have demonstrated that the technology can deliver a yield advantage of 7% to 11% over its first-generation Roundup Ready counterpart. CHS Inc. names Cheryl Schmura as VP, Crop Nutrients Operations. Schmura previously held financial management positions with Agriliance LLC and 3M Corporation's Industrial and Transportation Business. The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) launches a new program, Excellence Through Stewardship: Advancing Best Practices in Agricultural Biotech-nology, the first industry-coordinated effort to address product stewardship and quality management. The program provides a strong quality management system for the full life cycle of biotech plants into the future. It is intended to promote the responsible management of agricultural biotechnology, the continued adoption of plant biotechnology globally, and the enhanced value of biotech-derived plant products in the marketplace. David A. Weintraub joins Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) in the newly created position of Dir, External Affairs. Before joining ADM, Weintraub was with the Chicago corporate affairs practice of Weber Shandwick. The Farm Credit Administration (FCA) allows Farm Credit Services, Grand Forks, ND, and AgCountry Farm Credit Services to consolidate their assets and charter a new association, AgCountry Farm Credit Services, ACA. It will be located in Fargo, ND, will have total assets of approximately $2.3 billion. The combined territories will encompass 41 counties in northwestern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. Advan LLC hires Catherine Fuhrman as Product Mgr to help drive the introduction and management of new third-party crop protection products. Fuhrman has worked for PBI/Gordon Corporation, AdFarm and Bayer CropScience. Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings Inc. and CBOT Holdings, Inc. announce that shareholders have approved the proposed merger of CME and CBOT Holdings. Upon completion of the merger, the combined company, which will be called CME Group Inc., a CME/ Chicago Board of Trade Company, will be the world's largest and most diverse exchange, providing products in all major benchmark asset classes. The Hudson Institute's Alex Avery, author of "The Truth About Organic Foods," files a formal complaint against the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) for a news release, "Organic Farming Beats No-Till?" issued this summer. "Entirely missing from this article was the critical context of other research conducted by USDA ARS (in fact, by the same group of researchers using the same cropping system) showing that organic farming is five times more susceptible to soil erosion compared to no-till farming," says Avery. Fort Dodge Animal Health, a division of Wyeth, announces the promotion of Richard R. DeLuca to the newly established position of COO. The GSI Group, Inc. announces its parent company, GSI Holdings Corp., which is controlled by Charlesbank Capital Partners, has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Centerbridge Partners, L.P. BASF Corporation and Monsanto announce a joint marketing program to promote Headline fungicide from BASF. Under the agreement, Headline will be promoted in Monsanto's Roundup Rewards program. Dr. Norman Borlaug was presented the Congressional Medal of Honor. Known as the Father of the "Green Revolution," Dr. Borlaug developed new wheat varieties and promoted improved crop management practices that transformed agricultural production. Because of his achievements to prevent hunger, famine and misery around the world, it is said that Dr. Borlaug has "saved more lives than any other person who has ever lived." He has also received the Nobel Peace Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom — and joins only five others who have been so honored, including Mother Theresa, Eli Wiesel, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr., and Nelson Mandela.
