HIGHLIGHTS FROM BAYER CROPSCIENCES' ACTIVITIES AT FARM PROGRESS SHOW
Source: Bayer CropScience news release

Innovation, education and #AgVocate are leading themes at the 2015 Bayer CropScience Farm Progress Show tent. Informative product displays, interactive experiences, fun contests and educational sessions demonstrate how the people of Bayer CropScience are delivering solutions to help farmers produce the abundant, safe and healthy crops required to meet the demands of a rapidly expanding global population.

Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience LP, offered details during a meeting with the media at the show.

"Today, more than ever, farmers depend on - and consumers demand - innovative solutions to produce our food in a safe and sustainable way. We are proud to say that Bayer is an innovation leader in agriculture," Blome said.

Innovation

Bayer CropScience launched five new products in the past year alone to help farmers with their top challenges. Three of these products are featured at this year's show:

• ILeVO® - The first ever soybean seed treatment protecting against Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) and nematode activity. This major new breakthrough offers a boon for farmers struggling with SDS, which, according to experts, was the second leading cause of yield loss to disease in soybeans in 2014.

• Credenz® - Launched just over one year ago, Credenz is Bayer's first global soybean seed brand, offering integrated smart genetics, traits and varieties to deliver new choices for complete weed management and competitive yield performance. For 2016, the company is poised to expand its Credenz offering to farmers across most of the U.S. soybean production regions.

• DiFlexx™ - Available for the first time this past growing season, this corn herbicide delivers a different mode of action and a highly effective CSI Safener to mix with a Corvus®/Capreno®/Liberty® program for more effective weed management.

Blome also announced the company plans to introduce as many as 25 new products by 2022 - from new seed varieties and plant traits, to chemistries and biologicals focused on disease, insect and weed management. He also noted the company continues to invest in new ideas, research and infrastructure to deliver on its commitment to farmers and society, including in the digital farming space and through partnerships with venture capital firms.

Education

For agriculture to continue to thrive, it is important for farmers to continually learn and adopt new skills and techniques. To aid in this, Bayer is hosting learning sessions in its Education Theater to help farmers become more knowledgeable about some of the toughest challenges facing them on the farm. The topic lineup includes: SDS, controlling problematic weeds in corn, "Real Yield" opportunities in soybeans and more.

Fostering the next generation of leaders and innovators is another critical factor to the successful future of agriculture. The industry needs bright young minds to bring talent, energy, enthusiasm and scientific knowledge to bear against the challenges facing agriculture.

Bayer has long been committed to improving STEM education and science literacy through the Making Science Make Sense® program, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Yesterday, Bayer employees visited Bloomington Junior High School in Bloomington, Ill. to bring this hands-on science learning program to 60 sixth graders.

"If we opened just one of those student's eyes to the world of science and the possibilities it holds, our time at the school was well worth it," said Blome.

To further support STEM and ag education, Bayer announced a $10,000 grant to Illinois Central College, to help develop a workforce prepared to meet the challenges of today's progressive industry. The school will use the money to help keep its agricultural curriculum current with the latest technological advances.

#AgVocate

In a society that is increasingly urban, distanced from agriculture and concerned with food issues, conventional agriculture and those involved with it, Bayer believes it is vital for American farmers and ag professionals to speak up and share their passion for this great industry and its importance to our global society.

To this end, Bayer CropScience launched #AgVocate, an initiative designed to inform, encourage and enable voices within American agriculture to engage in the public dialogue about agriculture, food production and the importance of innovation to tackle the massive challenges facing our world today. Through this program, the company will provide information and resources to growers and others in the industry to help them speak confidently about their roles and the benefits of modern agriculture.

Vistors to the Bayer tent can pledge to #AgVocate and learn new facts and techniques to help them #AgVocate throughout the year. Today, attendees were joined in the Bayer booth by three leading AgVocates, Brian Scott, Jenny Schweigert and Jennifer Campbell, who shared how they use social media and other platforms to share their lives as leaders in modern agriculture.

And more...

Show visitors can engage with Bayer in a number of other fun and meaningful activities in its tent and elsewhere at the Show:

• The LibertyLink® Real Yield Game shows how the LibertyLink system provides superior control, even on the toughest weeds. Growers can instantly win prizes, including a 2015 John Deere combine or a one-year supply of LibertyLink soybeans and Liberty® herbicide. Every time the Real Yield Game is played, Bayer will make a contribution to the player's local FFA chapter*.

• Visitors to the Bayer tent can enter for a chance to win a Gibson® guitar autographed by country music star Luke Bryan. Bayer is proud to sponsor Luke's annual Farm Tour this fall.

• Show visitors can have their picture taken in the Bayer Bee Gardens by Gate 1 and share it through social channels to raise awareness of the importance of pollinator health.

• Additionally, visitors can contribute to a cleaner environment by taking advantage of the recycling stations sponsored by Bayer. In 2013, the nearly 4,000 pounds of recycled material was collected across the Decatur show site.
